My First Day
Hi Jesse here! My first post is going to be about my first day of high school in the spirit of going back to school. I know a lot of you incoming freshman are really scared and I totally get that! I was so nervous for my first day. I had been going to a small private school with same twenty kids since kindergarten. I didn't know anyone outside of that, and it really bothered me. I was afraid I wouldn't know anyone in my classes, and I would have to eat lunch alone, and people would be mean (especially upperclassmen, and I would get lost, and I wouldn't be able to open my locker! These worries filled my head in the days leading up to my first day. I was so stressed! When I first got to school, I went straight to my locker and couldn't open it for the life of me. I started to panic, and an upperclassman saw me and helped me get it open. She introduced herself, and I made my first friend! Then I started off to my classes. I was doing fine making my way around until 4th hour. That was when I got totally lost. I heard the bell ring and realized that my class has started! I wandered the halls aimlessly, and had to ask a teacher for directions. When I finally arrived the teacher was really understanding and told me it was fine. But it was pretty humiliating walking through the door with everyone's eyes on you. And to make it worse this was the class where I didn't know anyone at all! I took the first seat I saw and stayed quiet. The girl next to me smiled and told me that this happened to her the hour before. She ended up being one of my best friends. Then it was time for lunch. I was dreading it. I walked down alone, and miraculously found someone I knew. We didn't know anyone else so we sat at a table with just us. It was kind of embarrassing, looking around seeing the tables full of kids, and us two just sitting there at our big empty table. I was just relieved I wasn't alone! Then the girl who helped me open my locker saw me, and motioned me over. Nervously I grabbed my lunch and me and my friend went to her table. She introduced us to all her friends, and we sat with them for most of the year! The upperclassmen were kind of intimidating, but a lot of them proved to be really nice, and not the big scary monsters I was imagining. My next class was math class. Ugh I hated math with a burning passion, and I was not looking forward to the class. But the teacher was a spunky, hilarious guy in his twenties who you just can't help but love. His attitude was contagious and pretty soon math became my favorite class! After school, I had a packed schedule with tennis, and show choir most nights. And in those activities I met more and more people! And I had more and more people to say hi to in the hallway! All in all, high school really wasn't as horrible as I was expecting. In fact, it was pretty great. I met lots of new people, and enjoyed my classes, and there were lots of extracurricular activities to join. My first day went pretty smoothly, but all of them aren't like that. Yes, there is a lot of drama, STRESS, and craziness, but if you learn to deal with that you can have a pretty good time. Make friends with people who will help you succeed and make you feel good about yourself. Don't be afraid to ask for help. Be involved, but also know how to manage your time. But most importantly.... Be insane not the same!!!!! - Jesse*
